Thanks to the fully intact pal who forwarded this to me ;)
For the record, I think male circumcision is incredibly outdated and slightly barbaric. Plus, many of the justifications for it (hygiene, STI prevention, tradition) are just bizarre when applied to a modern-day, developed society where you have magical things like condoms and … soap. According to the Mayo Clinic, in 1999, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a policy statement that says the benefits aren’t strong enough to recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns. So at best, it’s unnecessary; at worst, it’s nonconsensual and invasive — why subject your child to that?
I honestly can’t stand children, but there are times when I want to become a mother, just so I can raise my child the “right way”. That means advocating science over religion, teaching about oppression instead of fostering entitlement, and giving my kid a good deal of autonomy (i.e. the right to make decisions, like whether or not he wants his foreskin cut off). But I suppose spite and a second persona as a baking hobbyist really aren’t big enough reasons to sign up for motherhood.
