“For those of you who aren’t aware, I used to be religious. And not just the standard “I guess I believe in God because everyone believes in God …” religious. I was relatively devout. I was also relatively self-righteous. I didn’t have anything on many Southern Baptists I have known, but I was definitely smug about the status of my immortal soul. Of course, I’m also very bright and grew to find logic and the material universe much more moving, moral, and plausible than a personal God who answers prayers and takes an interest in the outcome of sporting events.”
