Greetings from Brissago, Switzerland! I’ve been here for three days but have only just acquired Internet, so apologies to anyone whose emails have gone unanswered. Quiet, scenic, and altogether relaxing, this Italian-speaking town just might be my favorite destination of the summer thus far. Primary activities include: cooking, reading, sun-bathing, and enjoying the view of the enormous Lake Maggiore. (I finished Amsterdam, my favorite Ian McEwan novel yet, as well as his short story collection, In Between The Sheets.) Patrick also taught me how to play backgammon and gave me a chest stroke lesson, the latter not entirely successful.
We’re returning to Germany tomorrow morning, and though I’d love to stay longer, I have to admit that I really miss Hamlet who’s been in Osnabrück the past week. I’d love to get in a hike before we leave but if not, perhaps we can experience wintertime in Brissago next January.
(You can see Italy over my left shoulder in the above photo, since we’re mere miles from the border, which I crossed by water on Friday. Now I can say I’ve been … kind of.)
