#5: Watching everyone who said they weren’t going to get married or weren’t sure about marriage—get married.
Maybe I’ll be one of those people someday. Hit 30, change my mind about marriage, and kick into full-throttle wedding planning mode. It’s really not that far-fetched. Any of my friends will tell ya that I’m far too much of a hostess and way too vain to not embrace the concept of a party devoted to celebrating me! I mean, my relationship, that is.
Right now, I can’t conceive of a future in which I participate in marriage, but I also haven’t gone through the seemingly inevitable and forthcoming cycle of engagement parties, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, etc. etc. etc. Maybe at the end of all that, I’ll want to have the same experiences. More likely: I’ll just want my money and gifts back if none of these relationships work out. Friends, be forewarned.
